How Do You Reset A Furnace Limit Switch?

Living in San Bernardino and wish to know how to reset the furnace limit switch? Here we have for you a step-by-step do-it-yourself guide to assist you to a better heating service in San Bernardino.

Resetting a furnace limit switch is a straightforward way to fix any problem that you are facing with your heating service. The easiest way to save yourselves from a potentially unnecessary heating repair bill is to reset your furnace limit switch yourself before calling a heating repair in San Bernardino.

What is A Furnace Limit Switch?

The furnace limit switch may be a safety control that’s located below the plenum on the furnace. It works with the fan and makes sure it turns off on time, depending on the room’s temperature. Make sure that even after going through the article, you go through the contents of your furnace’s instruction manual to ensure your safety.

What are The Steps To Follow?

  • 1st Step: Locate where your furnace’s heating duct is. In most cases, the vent is located in the house’s basement. After doing so, discover the panel under the heating duct and open it using a screwdriver.
  • 2nd Step: Inside the panel, found on the top of the panel (it depends on the model) a limit switch which is white or sometimes silver as per the model. Remove the silver or white cover by pushing it up or pulling it off of the controller. Upon doing so, you will see the body of the switch with its two metal arms.
  • 3rd Step: Figure out which arm controls what temperatures. One component is responsible for maintaining the furnace’s low temperature, whereas the other controls high temperature.

You will have to identify the component located in the middle of both the arms, responsible for controlling the furnace’s fan.

  • 4th Step: Now make sure to set the temperature in the central component to 105-115 degrees Fahrenheit. Upon doing so, you ensure that the fan switches off and on at the right time.
  • 5th Step: Now set the temperature on the left component as 90 degrees Fahrenheit, which will signal the left arm to stop blowing cold air when it reaches 90 degrees.

And set the right arm to 200 degrees Fahrenheit, which signals the furnace to shut off when the burner reaches this temperature. (refer to the instruction handbook as well)

  • 6th Step: Remember to pull the white/silver switch out to make sure the furnace is on automatic mode, pay attention not to push it in, or all your implemented settings will be cleared, then close off the panel.

Conclusion
